Blogger--If you are relatively new to the web, Blogger might be for you. It's very easy to set up and use, and while it doesn't offer you a lot of choices, it more than serves the purpose of basic blogging. You might consider starting with a blog on blogger (owned by Google)
Live Journal--A somewhat commercial site, but Live Journal also has some attractive features and templates.
WordPress -- WordPress is a widely-used blogging platform with some advanced features.
Blogdrive-- a new player in the blogging world. I've not yet investigated this platform.

Posterous-- A new player in the field. Easy to set up and use. Seems like it has some fun templates worth trying out.
Typepad--TypePad seems pretty cool; lots of colorful templates and interesting formats.
